Eastern Hemlock Pests and Pathogens

This workshop will discuss pests and pathogens that impact eastern hemlock trees, including woolly adelgid, hemlock rust mite, Fabrella needle blight, and Cytospira canker. Attendees will learn about factors that make eastern hemlock trees vulnerable to pests and diseases, as well as resources for identifying and addressing hemlock problems. This presentation is intended for homeowners, woodland owners, and anyone who wants to learn more about eastern hemlock trees.

Angeline Binick volunteers as a Pennsylvania Forest Steward with the James C. Finley Center for Private Forests at Penn State. She also volunteers as a Master Gardener with the Adams County office of the Penn State Extension, and as head of the invasive plant removal crew for Friends of Codorus State Park.

Katie Shemwell is a forest landowner who recently developed a passion for saving hemlocks from demise due to Hemlock Woolly Adelgid.  To that end she became a Pennsylvania Forest Steward and began educating herself about everything to do with hemlock ecology, treatment, and funding.  If you want or have hemlock information she wants to talk with you.
