Located in south central Pennsylvanias
beautiful Blue Ridge Mountains, Strawberry Hill is a 600-acre
preserve and Nature Classroom offering visitors more than 10 miles
of trails and a variety of habitats, from streams and wetlands
to woods and rock outcrops.
Seasonal Internships
Strawberry Hill offers three 12-week internships:
an Environmental Education Internship in the spring, a Nature
Camp Internship in the summer, and a second Environmental Education
Internship in the fall.
Summer Nature Camp Internship POSITION FILLED
Early May through early September
Strawberry Hill has been providing environmental education
to the Adams County community for more than 19 years. During the
summer, the full-time seasonal intern will assist with Strawberry
Hills environmental education programs. The successful applicant
will be interested in having fun while gaining valuable experience
in the field of environmental education.
Responsibilities
Work with the Environmental Education Coordinator
to develop curriculum for day camp program. Serve as lead teacher
for the day camps.
Teach students of all ages, both in the field and
in the classroom.
Maintain Nature Classroom exhibits, displays, and live
animals (including snakes).
Greet visitors to the Nature Classroom. Represent Strawberry
Hill at off-site events.
Perform basic office duties.
Assist with natural resource management projects and
basic trail maintenance.
Assume other responsibilities as directed by Environmental
Education Coordinator or Preserve Manager.
Qualifications
Experience working with groups of children; teaching
experience a plus
Enthusiasm for, and a basic knowledge of, the natural
world are important
Ability to walk/hike the main teaching trails on the
preserve
Ability to work outdoors for extended periods in a
wide range of weather conditions
Excellent communication skills
Enthusiastic self-starter who enjoys working in a
small organization
Must have own transportation

Fall Environmental Education Internship
Mid-September through early December
During the spring and fall, the full-time seasonal intern will assist with
Strawberry Hills environmental education programs and natural
resource management projects. The successful applicant will be interested
in learning about and assisting with all aspects of the operation
of a small nonprofit nature center.

Private housing (a cottage by a singing stream) and a $150/week
stipend
